Anxiety and Depression...trying to get off Klonopin!

Hey everyone, I just discovered this sight and hope that I can benefit from it! It seems like a great sight! Here is my story. In December of 2005, 3 months after my second child...I woke up in the middle of the night FREAKING out and crying hysterically. I had to go to the emergency room. I wanted to commit suicide. After my baby was born I barely slept, ate, or did much of anything besides take care of the kids! My baby had bad reflux and I would have to stay up at night with her a lot to make sure that after she ate she didn't throw up. This was before I had the anxiety attack (the firs

Please listen to a good psychiatrist.  Parents are wonderful, but pharmacologists they aren't.  Tapering off klonopin is serious business, and must be done with a good psychiatrist who understands how to do it.  And also understand if it's time to do it.

Doc says ok to stop cold turkey from klonopin after 3 weeks

Hello there, First thing you have to know is that Lexapro will take a while to take action and make you actually feel better. If after 1 month you se improvement at all you could try another kind of anti-depressant in the family of the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Here are some examples: * Venlafaxine (Effexor) - The first and most commonly used SNRI. The reuptake effects of venlafaxine are dose dependent. * Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq) * Duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve)Duloxetine is contraindicated in patients with heavy alcohol use or chronic liver disease. Give Lexapro some time to work and maybe one day it will be like a miracle day and it will start do wonders. Otherwise talk to your doctor about trying the drugs i suggested you above. Remember that we are not doctor here and it is important to have the opinion of you doctor before considering quitting or switching medication. As for the Klonopin question i would still recommend you quitting it by slowly reducing dose to avoid any panic attack or heavy anxiety even if you have been on it for only a short time. Again i think it is important you talk to your doctor about all your concern and the opinions expressed here are mine and should not be replaced by the opinion of a qualified doctor. Best regards, M4

2 meds

Hey Anthony!  Saw your post on the anxiety forum.  No I am not stalking you I promise!  Drugs like Klonopin, Xanax and other benzodiazepines are often prescribed just initially until the SSRI kicks in to help with the anxiety.  Keep in mind the SSRIs can take 4 - 6 weeks to really kick in.  I was prescribed a low dose of xanax and take as needed for anxiety attacks (which I haven't had in a while) but I still take it at times in the morning if I feel a little edgy.  They can be addictive but if you take .05 of klonopin each morning I doubt you will ever get addicted.  If you took a high dose 3 times a day, that is a different story.  Per my other post, I take an SSRI and a SNRI which I too wonder if I need two drugs.  But at this point I don't care as I don't want to be back in the black hole I was in.  I am glad you are getting the help you need!

Should I switch from 4mg xanax a day to 4mg Klonopin a day

Can you give us more info?  Are you being asked to switch because of these side effects?  Are you tapering off the Xanax, because no two drugs even in the same class work the same and withdrawal from benzos can be a very hard and slow road.  And if this drug works and klonopin didn't, given both are addictive and very hard to stop taking and both have the potential to stop working eventually, I don't see the advantage.  Now, klonopin is longer acting, but also takes longer to take effect, but you''ve tried it and it didn't work.  I also wonder why you're relying on these short-acting drugs instead of trying an antidepressant that if it works will work all the time.

What is best way to come off benzos

Hi and welcome!! Benzo's are a lil tricky coming off of. Is it possible that you can talk with the prescribing doctor to have him/her assist you? You definatly have to taper very slow off of them. Your anxiety is going to double in the beginning as that is also a side effect of the withdrawal. You need a plan in place to address that and I see you picked up some Valerion Root. The best advice I can give you from learning here about benzo withdrawal is that the best way to detox from them is very ssslllllllloooooooowwww like over a months time. You came to a great place and there will be other members that come along that have more knowledge about the Benzo's. I wish you the best!! You are in the right mind set and I have no doubt that you cant do this!!((Hugs))~Bkitty

Anxiety out of control Blood pressure Up

Why are you tapering off the meds?  Are they giving you side effects?  Im on ativan for anxiety.  I take one in the morning and two before bed 1 mg each for sleep.  Any tranquizer will lower your blood pressure but if its high you should also be on a blood pressure pill.  I am on atenolol with a water pill.
