help for daughter

I am a worried mum who needs help & advice on helping my daughter (who wants to quit) in getting off dihydrocodeine? I am so pleased she's finally opened up to me & asked for help, but where do we start please? I think she feels its going to be hopeless as she constantly worries about running out, so buys(& gets other people to buy)substitutes from chemists to get by on. Has had this problem for many years & is looking very unhealthy lately :-( Any good advice would be appreciated please. Thankyou, lt.

Need help for my 21 year old daughter

hello and welcome. i know how heartbreaking this is for you. i also know how scared and helpless you feel. did your daughter come to you and admit she has been using? or did you find out another way? my daughter is 21 also. she had used different drugs for about 4 years. her life spun out of control. she was arrested quite a few times, was on probation, went to an outpatient program., but still continued to use. there is always hope....... i am thankfully able to say that she has been in an inpatient christian program for 11 weeks and is doing awesome. unfortunaltey, if your daughter isnt asking for help, sadly  there isnt much you can do for her until she is ready to get the help she needs. can you tell us some more about the situation. we are here to support and encourage you, to lend a listening ear and tell you things that have helped in our situations. debbie

Desperate for Help!

Hi, How is your daughter doing? Did she have any problem at birth? Did she cry after birth? At her delivery was the amniotic fluid meconium stained? Did she require any form of resuscitation at birth? If answer to any of above question is yes, then it might be a form of cerebral palsy. If answers are no then it might be due to some seizure or seizure like disorder. It has to be confirmed with help of CSF analysis, and EEG study. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.

natural help for viral induced asthma

I would get a second opinion of getting her tonsils and adneoids removed ..... they are there to help fight infections so without them she may have a harder time fighting infection.  Unless they are very large and swelling to the point of blocking her airway. Make sure yours and her technique for using the inhalers or nebs is proper by showing the doctor and getting their opinion.  If you are suppose to increase her meds at any point when she is sick, start treating aggressively at ANY sign of a cold or infection.  The earlier you start the meds, the better they will work. Good luck and hopefully that helped.

Desperate for Help!

Hope these words can be a little bit of help! We are in Ireland and our son is now 17 monts old and we still have no firm diagnosis. The up side to that is we've had a long time to do our own research. From what you have said her developmental delay doesnt sound to bad so thats a good thing. Has anyone tested her for hypotonia ie is she "floppy"? In general, the leg lifting thing(90 angle) would probably happen all of the time if it was serious cp. The best thing I can say is in the meantime while waiting to see other dr. is try to organise an mri scan just to reasure you that there isnt anything going on in the brain. Hope this was a help. Good Luck

My heart is breaking this morning

Get her to a doctor. I don't know the pathology of cutting, but I would imagine that having and knowing there is someone who loves you unconditionally helps. As hard as it is to "confront" a teenager in a situation like this, this is one of those times you must step in.  Lovingly and gently, unapologetically but empathetically. When I was raising my kids I definitely regretted some times when I didn't step in gingerly and try to let them know more profoundly that they are loved. Find a doctor immediately.  Get referrals.
