HELP why isn't ativan working now??

I guess I can't edit so I'll just add on here.....  I keep a daily diary of my progress or not. It looks like my best days are followed by taking my compazine.  10mg. pills. I've gone 7 days without any compazine, only ativan and I'm just getting worse.  My anxiety. Compazine works for me!  I can get by by taking one 10mg pill every 2-3 days. I'm thinking it wasn't the ativan helping me much it was the compazine. I see my doc again on the 1st of aug.  And I will discuss this with her.  I've talked with the pharmacist and he assures me that that low a dose of compazine is nothing and I will be fine with that.  If I was taking up to 75mg. a day,  that is a different story.

Ativan for anxiety induced chest pain

Has your doctor ruled out all organic reasons for the chest pain? If he is positive it is triggered by stress and anxiety, then Ativan would be a reasonable start in dealing with the pain. Ativan is a benzo, NOT a pain med, but I'm guessing his thinking is that if you can lower the anxiety/stress level, the pain level will also come down. You say it has helped, but the pain is still there. It may be time for your doc to try a something else. That could depend on what type of chest pain you're having. Chest pain can be caused by a great many things that have nothing to do with the heart. You could have pulled a muscle in your chest wall. Even a pulled or pinched muscle or nerve in your back can radiate to your chest. Same with your neck. Being under a lot of stress will create a lot of tension in your muscles. Perhaps he'll try an antiinflamatory, muscles relaxants, or both. Another choice could be an acid reducer. With stress comes stomach trouble. Obviously getting rid of the stress would help, but that's way easier said than done. Pain meds would be an option if everything else failed. Bottom line is to see your doctor and discuss this. If he can't figure out the cause of your chest pain, it may be time for a consult with a cardio. I wish you the best Peace Greenlydia

Therapy may help you to cope with your parent's divorce as well as other things.  I took Ativan for many years with no issues.  When you reach a point where you no longer need it, your doctor will tell you how to wean yourself off of it without any problems. Don't spend too much time googling these medications or any medication.  There are times when things are too much for us to handle on our own, and the medication can give us our lives back.  Work closely with your doctor on any side effects you may have, he is your best resource.  I personally think it would be a big help to you.  Best wishes and take care.

ativan and other sleep aids

that's a really low dose of Ativan and Ativan generally takes quite awhile to take effect, possibly an hour or two.  I've tried trazodone too and that doesn't do much either - it's an antidepressant with sedation as a side effect, so they figure it will work but a lot of times it doesn't.  If the trazodone doesn't work don't bother with it.  You could combine the Ativan with Benadryl or Tylenol PM (although I'm no doctor, I've suffered insomnia enough too) but my suggestion would be to up the Ativan to, well, you could go all the way up to 2 mg if you had to, and take it an hour or so before you plan to go to sleep.  :) Good luck!

concern about starting treatment with welbutrin?

It's true wellbutrin is better at keeping weight gain from happening compared to other antidepressants, but I've never heard it will help you lose weight.  It is a stimulating antidepressant, meaning it's not usually considered when anxiety is the primary problem, though some are helped by it for that purpose, others find the stimulation increases anxiety.  Benzos aren't really a sleep aid, though they can make you tired or less anxious for a temporary period of time.  Eventually you can get rebound insomnia from relying on them for sleep, and for that purpose you have to take them every day which brings on their addictive nature and they are hard to stop taking when you take them regularly as opposed to just as needed.  If your primary problem is depression, however, then it might be worth a try for the wellbutrin, but take care with the benzos and if you do take it watch to see if your anxiety levels increase.

does ativan really help ibs?

I have never heard of that. I have IBS too and I cant recall if my symptoms were better while on ativan or not. There was not an increase in IBS symptoms when I went off it. I find the best thing I can do for myself is fiber and just watching what I eat. I understand how it puts stress on your life. I can not eat out unless I am close to home. Might be a good question for your doctor for sure.

Anxiety? or Benzo withdrawal? Or just mental/anxiety?

Okay, so NOW I'm freaking out! I'm at work, and so far today hasnt been too bad. And all of a sudden I'm working and I feel like my BRAIN does this thing, that... I dunno how to explain it... but it just feels VERY STRANGE AND SCARY for like 2 seconds then stops... but then leaves me in panic... What is this!? Klonopin withdrawal? Lexapro withdrawal!? It's been like 10 days since I've been off the Klonopin and Lexapro! And I'm barley taking enough ativan, I would think, to not give me any withdrawal symptoms... Or is it typical to have symptoms after 10 days of my last bit of klonopin/lexapro!!?? I weaned off slowly over a week and a half or 2 period. And was only on the stuff for 2 months... is that long enough to have this crap!? It's seriously causing rebound anxiety and I HATE IT! I was doing GREAT over the Christmas break tapering and stuff! What the heck!? Part of my anxiety is telling "Go to the Dr. again! Tell him what's going on and you need an MRI, you could have a brain tumor!" But RATIONALLY I KNOW I DONT HAVE A BRAIN TUMOR! This is the anxiety doing its thing! I HATE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how can i tell the difference between ativan w/d and anxiety disorder?

The answer is in your post -- you didn't suffer anxiety until discontinuing Remeron.  If you get new problems you didn't have before taking a drug and nothing dramatic has happened in your life to cause mental distress then the most logical thing is the drug, given that we now know because of media and FDA investigations that these drugs do in fact cause severe withdrawals in many people.  There was a time drug companies had everyone convinced it was always a new illness manifesting, but we now know they knew these adverse consequences all along and never told anyone about it until forced to.  Some docs still believe drugs are always benign, and others believe drugs are problematic.  Personally, between a regular doc and a psychiatrist, I'd go with the psychiatrist because they just use these drugs more often.

I thought I beat anxiety!! :( encouragement please?

In December last year and January this year I felt so sick, nausea, extreme anxiety, fatigue, headaches- You name it, I felt it. It was a hard stage when I felt alone, and that mixed with my self diagnosed depression, it was a horrible time. I had felt ill for like a whole 2 months straight! And after like three weeks of continuous mystery illness I had convinced myself I was dying. I slept for like two hours a night, had anxiety fits every night just thinking of me shutting my eyes and never waking up. The mysytery illness had caused me to get so anxious I hardly left my home. I'm sort of trying to say that I'm still alive now, and the doc thinks that my illness was caused by a minor liver disease that I was born with called Gilberts Syndrome. (Nothing that can kill me unless I drink alcohol) I think that what you have or are feeling is probably made so much worse by your anxiety, if I was you I'd still get a blood test- But I was sure I was dying, I was convinced, so it could just be your anxiety... I'm sorry I rambled on and I wasn't that much help, but know that others have also experienced crazy anxiety :) You'll get through this! xx
