Trazodone to get off of Ambien

Its not an exact science since everyone responds somewhat differently to all the various medications.    From my own experience,  the ambien withdrawl could cause several restless nights until you wean off of it.   I found the trazodone to be of little help,  its an antidepressant which in theory should help you sleep.    You probably will have to have some kind of taper even with the trazadone though it shouldn't be as severe as from the ambien.     You didn't say how much ambien you're on and thats also a factor in withdrawl.      I never had much faith in some doctors who say this drug or that drug is not addictive.    I feel otherwise.    Sure,  trazadone is less addicting than say xanax or ativan but it is still addicting in its own way.

Trazodone for the first time

That does seem a little high. Mine put me on 50mgs max but to start out taking half a tablet for a week. I'm on Cymbalta (SNRI). I find that one tablet knocks me right out and makes me drowsy the next day as well. I had to cut it back to the 25mgs again. Ask your doctor why it's so high and if you can try a low dose first...

Trazodone?

You won't know in advance, since the side effects we get from meds differ from person to person.  When weight gain is a side effect, the reasons can be complex or simple -- the simple is the increased sedation and decreased metabolism.  The complex can be anything from the alteration in the natural way the body utilizes neurotransmitters to appetite increase (especially for simple carbs) to affected magnesium absorption, etc.  But again, we don't all get the same side effects, so only time will tell.

trazodone for sleep

I have taken trazadone for several years to help with sleep.  I have been told it is non-addictive and have gone off it from time to time with no problem.  For me, personally, it doesn't make me feel any different just able to sleep and I take it right before I go to sleep. Dave
