Anxiety/OCD-Fear of Blood (Help appreciated)

Hello:) I have been suffering with anxiety & OCD since childhood...It took various forms. For the past several years, however, I have developed an intense fear of blood. Almost everywhere I go, whether it be outside, stores, work, etc, I find myself constantly checking/looking out for possible blood on either the ground (like on bandaids), on anything I touch, and so on. It is very mentally exhausting. If I see anything that sets me off, I get an intense rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, and all the typical symptoms of an anxiety attack.. I used to go to therapy, but stopped going.

Anxiety/OCD-Fear of Blood (Help appreciated)

We share the same fear. I'm deathly afraid of contracting hep c or any blood borne disease, not to the extent that you are, but still afraid. I can tell you that you're not alone, but we need to get these irrational fears out of our head, otherwise we will never be able to enjoy our life. I'm about to graduate with my bachelors in psychology and I'll tell you that having a phobia of blood & diseases is definitely not uncommon, but we need to manage our ocd and anxiety. I suffer from ocd and anxiety as well, but am in my better days of dealing with all of this. First off, there is a slim to zero chance that you could catch a blood borne disease from this kind of exposure. Someone in the hep c forum just posted a similar situation to this a couple of days ago & the people in that forum said this is a "very slim to nil chance". These people are very knowledgable and familiar with blood borne diseases and how they can spread, so I would trust their opinion. When it comes to OCD, you have to quit feeding the monster- that's what I like to call it anyway. When you give in to the rituals or obsessive thoughts, you will never be able to get rid of the ocd. Others can help you, but ultimately you have to be your own psychologist. You have to talk yourself through these irrational fears. Also, confronting the fear head on will help diminish the obsessive thoughts. If you think about it, a fear is nothing but air- it doesn't exist. One of the biggest problems with ocd is that it begins to make patients doubt things such as you replaying this scenario over and over again in your head. That's when you need to remember that this is your ocd talking, not your irrational fear coming true. Here's a website that really helped me understand ocd a little more & get me through the hard times. Phobia

Xanax is quite effective for reducing anxiety.  However, there is some risk for dependence.  It's fine to take Xanax for situational anxiety, but can be problematic if you find yourself wanting to take it everyday.  If your anxiety occurs daily, something like an SSRI might be a better choice.

fear of getting a blood clot. any help!

You sound just fine and need to accept this.  I know it's easier said than done, but therapy can help you with this.  Our anxiety can make us becomed fixated on a certain health issue which consumes us, when there is no reason for it.  You have no reason to have this fear so  therapy would greatly benefit you in getting over your fear.  I want to see you living your life and not worrying it away.  Stop all the testing and seek help with a psychiatrist.  I suggest a psychiaitrist because should you need medication, they are the most knowlegable, and they can refer you to the proper therapist.  I know it's tough, but hang in there, you're going to be okay.  We're always here for you!

Obsessed about my heart

Your doctor didn't suggest therapy?  To get to the bottom "why" you are so concerned with your heart?  Meds are a bandaid.  They will calm you down and maybe even not think so much about it, but for how long?  Till you get off of them?  Do you want to take them forever?  There is nothing wrong at the beginning to take meds ON TOP of professional help to find out why you are so afraid of dying and so afraid of your heart. Did anybody in your family die of heart disease or sudden death because of a heart problem?  Sometimes this can cause severe anxiety about a certain illness because you think it will happen to you too. Most of all TRUST your doctor when he says that your heart is fine.

Help with Understanding Blood Counts

Hi, the values of RBC, WBC and the differential count is low. Low counts can occur when there is bone marrow failure, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, diseases of liver  and due to certain medications. As the liver function tests are also raised, it could be due to a liver disorder. If you are on any medications check with your doctor to see if its causing these changes in blood counts. The next course of action may be to due hepatitis panel to rule out any hepatic infections. Are you jaundiced? A prothrombin time, bleeding and clotting time may also be useful to see for clotting disorders. He may also ask for imaging studies, this may further help to narrow down the problem.
