Is this abuse?

Hi I am a 30 year old female and I work as a caregiver. I had a situation last night with one of my regular clients where he kept hugging me whilst I had finished getting him ready for bed (he is susceptible to falls so we help him with this as a precaution) and he then put his hands on the backs of my hips and then squeezed my bum. I was quite surprised at this as it happened before but we laughed it off and he apologised the next day. After squeezing my bum he then broke down and said he and his late wife (who I also cared for) used to have a fantastic sex life. I reassured him saying it mu

Suggested Questions And Answer :

Substance Abuse

substance abuse is the only thing that gives me episodes.  I wonder how much of the drugs and alcohol actually starts the process of these disorders.  Everyone says I am a patient and kind person and i usually just keep my mouth shut about things. Throw some alcohol into it and i am out of control and telling people what i really think.  I may be depressed afterward but i have no remorse for my actions afterward.  Sometimes i wonder if it really is a bipolar issue like everyone says it is.  I mean really who nowadays thinks logically.  I have been bipolar for 10 years and i see people around me doing and saying crazier things than i ever would.  I don't know just a thought.

My half uncle did NOT abuse me!

You feel there was a difference between a father taking sexual advantage of his child, and a half-uncle having a sexual relationship with his half-niece.  Is this because there was distance between you and your half-uncle such that he might have simply been more like some guy you met, versus a relative?  Was he involved with your life when you were a child or did he only meet you later when you were a grown-up?  If you feel that it messes up your life to be told that this was a bad relationship when you think it was a warm one,  don't live in shame.

BPD in 55+

Talk therapists are good in addition to medication and you often don't have to tell your whole life story but what specifically troubles you so you can work on recovery goals. What is also good for bpd is cognitive behavioral therapy. Sometimes that seems more impersonal but if people don't want to discuss everything that has gone on in their life but some very specific practical recovery goals that might be the right person. Give it a chance. Anything that seems important is worth disclosing and talking about but don't feel pressured. Working with a therapist takes a while to build up a working relationship of trust just like any other professional.

It's been happening for too long and I don't know how to make it stop

Well,  the simple fact is you do know how to make it stop - move out.  It's unlikely you will be able to convince them to suddenly begin respecting you. No one that you talk to can help you,  I don't think.  Since you are an adult and free to leave,  no one can come to your home and tell everyone to be nice. So it's your choice.  Stay there and benefit from the free housing and chance to go to college,  or move out and lose those benefits.   Either way,  you are CERTAINLY not forced to live there forever,  cultural norms or not. Best wishes.

Concerning effects of DPH Abuse and Nausea

hi. without consulting a competent physician, it would be impossible to assess your condition. these medications are not tested on humans at such high doses for obvious reasons, and the only information from such abuse usually comes from the documentation of overdose cases in the er or morgue. short or long term use of such high doses will cause liver damage and possibly compromise parts of the central nervous system. you may have done permanent damage that will not even become apparent, especially if on the cellular level, until you end up with liver disease or cancer at an early age. i understand this type of chemical abuse is rampant among kids these days because these meds are available without a prescription. what i can't grasp is the mentality required to do something this stupid as the potential repercussions can be lethal. in low enough doses, things like gasoline and carbon monoxide will give you a buzz as well. hopefully you will come to your senses prior to experimenting with things like them. good luck,   gm

Good article on addiction and why some people get addicted .

Why do some people become addicted, while others do not? No single factor can predict whether or not a person will become addicted to drugs. Risk for addiction is influenced by a person's biology, social environment, and age or stage of development. The more risk factors an individual has, the greater the chance that taking drugs can lead to addiction. For example:     * Biology. The genes that people are born with—in combination with environmental influences—account for about half of their addiction vulnerability. Additionally, gender, ethnicity, and the presence of other mental disorders may influence risk for drug abuse and addiction.     * Environment. A person's environment includes many different influences—from family and friends to socioeconomic status and quality of life in general. Factors such as peer pressure, physical and sexual abuse, stress, and parental involvement can greatly influence the course of drug abuse and addiction in a person's life.     * Development. Genetic and environmental factors interact with critical developmental stages in a person's life to affect addiction vulnerability, and adolescents experience a double challenge. Although taking drugs at any age can lead to addiction, the earlier that drug use begins, the more likely it is to progress to more serious abuse. And because adolescents' brains are still developing in the areas that govern decisionmaking, judgment, and self-control, they are especially prone to risk-taking behaviors, including trying drugs of abuse. Prevention is the key Drug addiction is a preventable disease. Results from NIDA-funded research have shown that prevention programs that involve the family, schools, communities, and the media are effective in reducing drug abuse. Although many events and cultural factors affect drug abuse trends, when youths perceive drug abuse as harmful, they reduce their drug taking. It is necessary, therefore, to help youth and the general public to understand the risks of drug abuse and for teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals to keep sending the message that drug addiction can be prevented if a person never abuses drugs.
