Going forward with Treatment

I need to have a third port put in for cancer treatment for the third time.  The first time it was in my left shoulder. The second time it was in my right shoulder.  The second one caused blood clots in my right arm that had to be treated. I need to know if it would be possible to place a third one in my body and if so where could it go and how likely would blood clots occur being that it happened with the second one?   I take asprin and garlic for blood thinning and no longer am on prescription blood thinners.

Going forward with Treatment

Hi. If the surgeons can't find another site near your shoulder, the port can be placed on the inner aspect of your upper arm.  Blood clots do occur as a complication of this procedure.  Various studies have reported the occurrence of clotting in venous ports from a low of 3% to a high of 17%.  But if the port is correctly installed and is periodically flushed with blood thinners (e.g. heparin), it usually does not clog for the duration of the chemotherapy.

I'm living the question

I haven't tried it myself, but I hear fish oil has an anti-inflammatory effect, particularly for the joints.   It is annoying how NSAIDs react with lithium and such things.  I have to be very careful with mixing the pills I take for my period and my valproate.  Means lots of pain.  Am thinking of trying fish oil soon...

Opiate Addiction

Hang in there I feel your pain. One of the things that help me get clean was Gabapentin (Neurontin). I took 300mgs a day 3xs a day and it help relax me and helped with sleep. Only get a small amounts worth just to get you throught about 5 days of withdrawal and then discontinue use. Worked better for me than any benzo did. Also helps keep a stable mood. It's not a magic pill but certainly very helpful.

Only a spine specialist can tell if ur neck is at risk of getting worse or if it is the fact u r no longer on the meds. Speak with ur dr to see if there is something other than meds that may help. Please keep us posted "selma"

I think I'm in trouble

Hi, just wondering, doesn't your friend miss her meds or doesn't she care if you take them?  Sooner or later she will run out and know that she is short on her meds.     It's kinds like quitting smoking, hard to do but worth it.  I think you will need alot of will power and determination in order to quit.  The longer you are into the pills the harder it will be to get off of them, I took lortabs for 5 yrs. and it was awful to w/d after so many years of use.  Please, get off the opiate train before it de-rails your life. The opiates consume us without us realizing what has happened.  I have been clean 3 mos. now,  it is worth it to not be chaseing the pills and planning my life around them!  Sure I still crave at times really bad, but so far so good with it. Best wishes, Ella
