Chronic Breast Infection
Since the infection is not clearing up,I wonder if your Doctor made a culture of the infecting organism? If not, then it should be done so that a proper antibiotic treatment can be focused on the offending organism. Breast infection can sometimes be very difficult to treat, but eventually it can be cured with the proper antibiotics.
It is also possible that your infection keeps coming back because you have some other illness which could affect your immune system, such as diabetes?.Also smokers are at a higher risk of the condition recurring .
I also wonder if you have been diagnosed with GM ?(granulomatous mastitis) Because the infection can occur in any part of the breast and tends to recur. It is postulated to be an autoimmune condition with no definite triggering factor, and treatment is prolonged, using immunosuppressants. I heard that to help diagnose GM, your doctor needs to do a special test to look for 'corynebacterium'.
I am surprised that you cannot find a Breast Specialist for a second opinion…. You could find these Doctors at a hospital or cancer center, or preferably see an Infectious Disease Specialist.
Whatever you do, don’t give up and I really hope that you’ll find a solution soon to get rid of this problem.
