Question About Pain & Prognosis

Please excuse me if I don't get the lingo right here, I am first becoming more educated about Stage IV BC. Last summer (2009) my beautiful mother-in-law was diagnosed with Stage IV recurrent BC that had spread to her bones.  She had been cancer-free for 11 years.  Though it was determined that her tumors are estrogen+, after trying several different drug therapies with basically unsuccessful results, the doctors decided that chemo is her only option.  Oh, I should add that at this point the cancer has been found basically throughout her entire spine, and uppe

Neck Pain Worse 13 Months Later

I'm about in the same situation as you are.  I was hurt at work 05/25/05.  I was told by an orthopedic doctor that I had a torn rotator cuff which was repaired on 02/13/06. Due to the numbness and neck pain I was sent to a nerosurgeon.  On 11/08/06 he did an ACDF (C5-C7) due to ruptured disks.  It has been over ten months and I'm in more pain than before surgery.  I've had every kind of test that could be thought of and my doctor says that everything looks great.  My neck and shoulder burns and aches all the time, I have terrible headaches everyday.  I am still taking muscle relaxers and Demeral every 4 hours. Last month my doctor sent me for an EMG because my pinky and ring finger were numb.  The test was normal but the doctor still thought that I had damaged my Ulnar nerve in my elbow when I fell on it.  He also said that it could be causing my shoulder pain.  I am now 4 weeks post-op from that surgery.  I have no feeling in my pinky or ring finger and my arm is numb up to my elbow.  I know that some of the feeling will probably come back, but my shoulder pain is no better and so far all I've got from the surgery is an incision about 9 inches long on my arm. I haven't worked since before my fusion in Nov.  And now three surgerys later I'm worse than I was to begin with.  I just want to know what is causing this pain and will it ever go away. Workers comp hasn't wanted to settle yet, but with it getting close to being a year since I went out of work I look for them to start putting the pressure on.  I retained an attorney soon after my accident so he will take care of all of that.  But I know he want accept a settlement on thier terms.  My injury was caused by the neglagence of six supervisors, so he is going to push it to the limit.  Espescially with me still in the condition I'm in.  He recently ask my doctor if he would refer me for a pchycological evaluation which showed that I was very depressed and should have treatment right away.  After going thru this kind of **** who wouldn't need treatment.  My attorney also said that my company would be responsable for medical treatment on my injurys for the rest of my life.  I don't know if that applies to every state but it does in Tn.   I was also perfectly healthy before this happened.  I am 45 and my husband and I waited late in life to have children.  We have a 7 year old and a 4 year old.  Now I am so messed up I can barely care for them.  I just don't want thier memories of childhood being thier mother all crippled up and not being able to do anything with them.   If you haven't retained an attorney I would certainly look into it.  Workers comp is going to take care of the company not you, so you need someone looking out for your best interest and someone that knows the laws.  I'm sorry your having to go thru so much pain.  Good luck.

Pain sensations ? Uncomfort

Im an 18 year old male and I suffer through the exact same feelings as you do. It is anxiety, no doubt. I've been to the doctor, and after describing it, first words were Anxiety. Now my mother has been suffering from anxiety as well, shes more calm now a days, through what shes taught me. I suggest look up something called "The Linden Method." It is this man, I think his name is Charles Linden, and he has this horrific past, in which hes suffered the MOST SEVERE anxietys imaginable. Hes found a way to cure it. No drugs. No psychologists or doctors. Its all based on something he made, the Nine Pillar Method. I dont know how serious you are into looking for answers and curing your anxiety. But if your dead serious, I highly suggest this method. My mom actually bought his book (it came with a few CDs) Im not sure when it was, but im sure you can find it online. From personal experience, I had the exact same issues. I always felt these pains and discomforts that wouldnt seem to go away. It always caused me to feel "oh could this mean I have a disease" or stuff like that, causing it to be more uncomfortable and me to induce myself into a Panic Attack. After reading a lot of his book, and doing his Nine Pillar theory, and listening to his relaxation CDs, I was able to control my anxiety a lot more. I actually decided to stop using the CDs and book for a while, before I was actually finished with the program, because I felt so much better in daily activities. I still suffer small anxiety, and am actually catching up on the method to this day. Lastly, If that seems like too much for you, the simplest things that will help. -Stay away from doctors (If you really feel a pain, and you know that its 100% real, then visit a doctor, If you have the slightest doubt in your mind that it could be in your head, then dont) The more you visit your doctor, or think about doing it, the more you'll be looking for others to be assured that your ok. When in reality all you need is yourself. -Distractions. The key element for ridding anxiety. Do new things, enjoy new things, be with people interact, dont let your mind focus in on silly things, thats when anxiety is triggered. -Third and most important, DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT get prescribed for anti-anxiety drugs. The drugs only temporarily dismiss the problem. Soon you will find yourself reliant on them, and needing to up the dose each time. Its all in your head, and if you begin to take drugs to avoid it, all your head is gonna think is that it needs more to stay away from it. THE ONLY CURE is to stay positive, and slowly reconstruct your subconscious. Try to stay away from thinking negative about small things, and if you feel a sensation or discomfort, try to nudge it off as if it were a bug bite, and go do something fun. -trevor

Have a serious question about adderall & no one will answer it :( plse help

Adderall has a duration of 4 to 8 hours, while the XR version is 6 to 10 hours (length is dose dependent to some extent).  If you are not on the XR version then it is probably leaving your system, and thus the diffference in feeling.    Why you are not feeling the pain is a very good question.  I think that you are going to have to experiment with this and see what happens.  For example, if you extend the dose (or take an XR), can you delay your pain meds a lot longer?  Also what happens when you take them together?  You said, "the side effects together just aren't great".  What are they?
