Need opinion

hi My mother has completed her 3rd chemotherapy and asked us to come again for 4th chemo. I asked the doctor is it necesary for chemotherapy. he said that he would do 2D cardiogram and suggest further. I am confused that by the 2D cardiogram can we identify whether patient has cancer cells or not. further, can you suggest a test which would determine if there are any cancer cells present in her body. please advice. thank you.

Who does she think she is??  Her boss, your doctor, needs to know this ASAP.  She has no right to over rule a doctor and leave you hanging.  I would call and INSIST on talking to the doctor, and get this done.  One day is too long to wait because a secretary is making decisions.  Good luck. Katie

feeling frustrated today.

Hi...sounds more like intra cranial hypertension to me, especially if u r on is used to help with excess fluid....which can cause pressure. Some have a herniation or low lying tonsils as a result of the ICP...and some develop ICP as a result of an obstruction of fluid....either way, it is related to chiari in that u may have both... I know the expense of getting to a chiari dr can be daunting, but it is something u really need to do...try the Health Pages link....there r web site links to orgs that can help like Wishes and rainbows...and Angel Flights...etc.Plus, u can do a fund raiser to raise the funds u need to get to the right dr....get ur family and friends together to help. U do not want to leave this up to a dr that has little to no experience. Hang in there : ) "selma"

I would need an opinion on my ankle MRI, I have chronic ankle pain

Hi! I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. There is no apparent rupture of tendon and ligaments or bony growths or fractures visible on the CT and MRI. Pain on the outer side of ankle felt especially when you put weight on it is usually due to sinus tarsi syndrome (pain just front of lateral malleolus on the outer side of ankle).  There is no swelling accompanying the pain. This is usually managed conservatively with anti-inflammatory drugs, shoes that keeps the person stable (low heel or flats), intermittent immobilization of ankle, use of ankle sleeve and by easily available over-the-counter orthoses. If pain persists, doctors may prescribe oral steroids, or may inject steroid into the joint, or send you for physical therapy or for custom made orthoses. Surgery is rarely needed.   The other possibility is peroneal tendon syndromes including rupture of tendon of peroneus brevis. This causes pain with swelling, especially if the tendon ruptures (less likely in your case). If there is strain in the tendon then you need to start the RICE treatment (rest, ice, compression, and elevation). You will need non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and may need to go for a cast in lower foot. Again surgery is usually not required. You can show this to your doctor and start the first line of treatment. If you do not get relief you may need to consult an orthopedic specialist or a sports injury specialist. Hope this helps. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.

To Radiate or not

Hi. As of the present, there is still considerable debate regarding whether to irradiate those who have 1-4 positive nodes.  The textbook opinion is that radiation is warranted for those with 5 or more nodes, or with large (about more than 5cm) primary tumor.  The risks and benefits in radiating this degree of node and benefit are almost equal (remember, radiation also has acute and long term side effects).  There are still on going trials that aims to solve this question but that may not be available for another year. with this in mind, I believe that the decision will lie on other factors such as that of your age, or the degree of aggressiveness of the tumor.

I hate to burst your bubble here, Ace, but what you've described sounds pretty ordinary and routine in the wonderful world of panic and anxiety. The racing heart, the whole thing (yawn). That's what the disorder is all about: everything becomes more magnified, with jagged edges and strange levels of intensity. You're sure you are going to die. Well, one day you will -but probably not today or tonight. And, if you add recreational drugs into the mix, now you've got some real excitement. Here's the deal: if you just can't cope, get your butt to the ER. Otherwise, you need the services of a shrink and you need them yesterday, so that's job 1. You can tell your wife that your reaction to the dream has convinced you it is time to call in some professional help. Now, if what you really want to do is find some way to suppress the panic/anxiety thing while you do recreational drugs and otherwise pay no attention to your welfare and that of the people who depend on you, you're walking on thin ice here, because this is a community of people who want to get better with as little need of any drugs of whatever kind as possible. So, you need to decide what you're really after. One thing that will help is joining this forum, so please, please become a member. Its easy -just click the Join Link -enter some profile information about yourself -even a picture if you care to- and anything you think would help us get to know you faster and better, and you can change this material whenever you like. You will also be accessible to receive private messages when other members click the name you've given yourself -sort of a "push to talk" feature. After you've done that, spend some time just using various features of the forum. For example, to see all the posts or responses that someone has made, just click their handle, go to their profile, click Posts, and read to your heart's content. You may also enter search terms -including member names- in the search box at the upper right of your screen and the system will retrun everything matching the term(s) you entered. This INCLUDES a drug database that will give you both user posts about drugs as well as the medical information about the drug. A great way to get quick answers about therapeutic effect, side effects, interactions, etc. One of the profile categories is your mood, which you may change anytime you like. Along the right side of your screen is a section of Recent Activity, which not only alerts you to new posts, but new ANYTHING, including journal entries and mood. This is a way to telegraph the community at large without actually creating a separate post. Thus, if you see a friend's mood has changed while you are working on a response or post, it can alert you to send them a private message to learn more or simply let them know you're thinking of them. Likewise, if you are going to be "out," you could enter something like "off line for the night" as your mood, and people would know you're away from the forum for awhile. If you do this kind of exploring and experimenting right away, you'll be up-to-speed quickly. If you see the message you are reading now as part of a direct response I (or anyone) has made to one of your posts, it was probably copied and pasted from this journal. I hate form letters and auto-responses as much as anyone -but I also hate forgetting to tell people what they need to know, so this is my safety-net. Consider it as part of your "Welcome" kit. So -please join and try things out. You might also want to read my entries for the "Right Click Trick" and "When in Haste, Use Copy 'n Paste" for some other convenient time-savers. Please let us know what you're able to accomplish today -the first few hours are critical. Stay with us!

i need to get off methadone!!!!!!

Hello I have been clean (was at clinic aswell) for 35 days. I did taper from 70 and too noticed a big difference in the taper once I fell below 20. I stayed at 20, 15 for a few weeks trying to let my body adjust and then just jumped at 10, but the lower you go the better chance the withdrawl wont be as severe, mine was rough but felt like crap at 10 so just decided to get it over with.  As far as the suboxone is concerned some come off with little trouble while others really struggle...its up to you but if you're just trying to beat the withdrawl aspect well there isnt any getting around it and wouldnt even try it without a dr administering it. There others on here that have more insight with the subs im just telling you what ive read over the last few weeks. If your goal is to be drug free Id try to just keep tapering and try not to do the subs but its your choice and as long as the end result is you being clean thats all that matters but do your can do this just be ready for a long recovery you get better but its a slow process!!!  good luck and keep posting!
