Tested positive ca-15-3 on SCREENING-

I recently took some 'cancer screening' blood tests, and came up with a positive ca 15-3 ( it was 30 and then I retested and it was 29.5). I have a strong history of early cancer in my family ( I am 56 years old). I had a screening ultrasound which showed some cysts in my left breast. My white count has been low for years (3.6 now).Other than that, I seem healthy. ( well, I do have a slightly sore lymph node under my right arm) Is there much chance that the test was a false positive and I am not sick? What should I do next? I heard that many people actually have cancer for years befor

Tested positive ca-15-3 on SCREENING-

Hello and hope you are doing well. CA 15-3 is a tumor marker for breast cancer. The reference range of serum CA 15-3 is less than 30 U/mL.  As your values are on the higher side of normal and as there are cysts in the breast and with a strong family history, you may need further tests like FNAC, fine needle aspiration cytology or a biopsy to rule out a malignancy. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

drug screens

I don't know but I've never heard of psychiatric medications causing a false positive for pcp but there can be other reasons for false positives with drug tests. Ask his doctor and discuss all the medications he takes and ask if they are any other reasons for false positives. Pcp use is rare. Its an extreme and dangerous drug that causes extreme personality changes and psychosis. On the other hand if it did turn out he was using it its good you found out as he would require rehabilitation. Speak with him and his psychiatrist together and see if you can find out what's going on.

ANA Levels

The test results for autoimmune diseases are ambiguous and very frustrating.  You can test high positive for something and not have it and can be low positive or even negative for something else and be eaten up with it. I look at the lab tests are indicators of possibilities.  It is the combination of labs and symptoms that get you a diagnosis.  Symptoms can be more than how you feel and rashes, they include x-ray, MRI and other test results. Hang in there.  I found waiting for test results and a subsequent diagnosis to be the most excrutiating part of the process.

Hi and Welcome! I am sorry that has happened to you. I would think since you are getting these injections from a physician that they could vouch for you and intervene some way. You are legitamitly getting these injections. Did you show them some kind of proof that you get the injections? I know with hair follicle testing it can show up to a year. Again, sorry that this has happened. ~Bkitty

Test Results Question

Sheaby, a percentage of women TTC having issues, are hypothyroid. Unresolved prolonged low thyroid (more often than not,  because of reliance on unreliable blood tests resulting in undiagnosis, underdiagnosis or worse misdiagnosis) may result in serious organ involvement, leading possibly to SLE when other factors are present. Best, try Dr. Barnes basal temperature test on your own. Just look it up and follow the instructions precisely! This will 99.9% indicate if you have low thyroid function, regardless of serum thyroid hormone levels! Biologically active Thyroid hormone is in the cells,so serum levels are not indicative of Thyroid function. TSH, T3 and T4 are inadequate tests. Please let me know the result, if you decide to do the temperature test. Note that this is not intended as a substitute for medical advice. Best Wishes. Niko

False positive for amphetimines?

Hi, I did some googling for you, and couldn't find anything anywhere that would indicate that Paxil causes a false positive for speed. There ARE other drugs, however that can do this...many OTC.   I'd take a list of every single med you have taken in the last 30 days, and google to see if it can cause this puzzling result. Good luck.

Diagnosis questions

Dpnna: First and foremost..hang in there.  I am waiting for test results as we speak.  I had a positive ANA screen and sent to a rheumy.  He ran a gammit of tests including all the ones you mentioned above.  I have the EXACT symptoms you have and suffer each day.  When I went to see the specialist he said he needed the test results before he would say anything.  He also told me that it will be a long haul with this and that I will probably be seeing him every 2 months.  I think it is just nuts to have to wait like this.... I had to call him today...still waiting for a call back...with a new symptom; tingling in my legs.  That is enough to drive you straight up a wall, trust me. I do not like the work undifferentated disorder...what does that mean?  That means that they know there is something wrong, it just has not presented itself yet.  Unfortunately, lupus can be exactly like that!  I know a person who has it and she took 3 years before they would say yes, it is lupus.  I also know a person who had be told they have lupus and then medicated for it...then 2 years later told she did not.  This is just an odd diease that, unfortunatley, rears its ugly head and we just do not know when.... I went from training for another marathon to one day sickly and not able to run 2 miles let alone 25 like I was the week before.  I just do not get it.  It is a wait and see game. I wish you the best of luck with this journey.  Please keep me posted on how you are doing and what they say on Friday. Kristina
