Radical Masectomy no sex drive

I just had a radical masectomy six months ago followed by chemotherapy. My doctor has given my husband the go ahead for sexual relations and I need to say that not only  is my desire gone, when we have had sex, it felt nothing like the way it once did when I still had my breasts. Could  this all be in my head, or could the surgery have physicaly changed for the negative my sexual feelings. This is a difficult question to ask and I dont feel it can be answered by someone who has not had breast cancer and the difficult surgery that follows. Any feedback on this would be m

Suggested Questions And Answer :

Should I add Wellbutrin XL to Zoloft? No sex drive!

Namaste, One of the side effects of Zoloft is a decreased sex drive, whereas you're under the impression that Wellbrutin XL will negate your decreased sex dive. I am unaware of any such effect. Zoloft is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Zoloft affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Zoloft is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). If you feel Lexapro is more effective in controlling your symptoms, you may want to continue treatment with that rather than Zoloft, although Lexapro will also effect your sex drive. Your doctor, along with your input, have to decide whether the benefits of the medications outweigh the side effects. There are also additional steps you may take to assist in your sexual performance such as Viagra, although that will not increase your sex drive(the desire to have sex). Michael(Jikan)

Sex drive / lack of feeling

I am 32 and have a similar issue. But it was pre op for a few years, hoping after I heal from 2nd surgery I just had it will be normal again. How long until I'm normal again?!?

While there may be some women on this forum who can relate to your experience with this particular birth control and anxiety, I would highly recommend that you visit the Birth Control Forum and talk to the women over there. I hope someone here can respond to your questions, and please feel free to post on both forums. I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for you. Have you spoken with your gyno, AGAIN, about this? I'm a wee past the age of needing birth control pills, but I would imagine that with all the new ones on the market, it's a bit like antianxiety or antidepressant meds, sometimes it just takes awhile to find the right one for you. I'm sure it won't take long for you to return to feeling normal. Perhaps consider taking a break from BC pills......give some thought to other, non hormonal types of BC. Just a thought from an old menopausal hippie!   Best of luck Peace Greenlydia
