50 day post-op L5-S1 PLIF w/ "electrical shocks"

Recovery from surgery has been largely "normal", and surgery appears to have fixed the original problems, so ... YAY!  50 days out though, I'm still on opiates, which I hate, and several times a day I get these "electrical shock" sensations at the surgical site that are so severe, they drop me to the floor howling. I'm concerned that I will drop from one of these and re-injure my new back!  This pain is solid 10, and I cannot treat with meds because I cannot tell when they'll happen, or if they'll happen. I haven't been able to find a

50 day post-op L5-S1 PLIF w/ "electrical shocks"

Hi there! Post surgical pain is often due to associated inflammation and usually gets better with time. After an initial period of rest, physiotherapy is usually initiated which would also help alleviate discomfort and improve muscle strength. You could discuss the situation and the expected, prognosis in detail with your treating doctor. Hope this is helpful. Take care!

New post for the posse!!!

Good morning angels. Day 6 seems to be off to a little rocky start. Hard cravings, can't seem to shake. Working hard at staying busy. cleaning, laundry, garbage, and walk. Still not much relief. So what to do? Find my support on this site and start reading posts. It always works. Looking back to my first post a little over 4 days ago seems like a lifetime. What a difference one hour at a time makes. From 38 hrs on Mon. am to 137 on Fri am. Some of those hours were really bad, but you know, I didn't get this way in a 100 hrs, so I can't really clean it up in a 100 hrs. But what I can do is read what my fellow addicts are going through and be inspired to keep fighting. Tina, you are leading the charge. Thank you so much. Warriors don't give up. I refuse to give up the last 137 hrs of freedom because of my weak minutes. Already feeling stronger. And if today is just getting through the next 5 or 10 minutes at a time, so be it. I refuse to fail.

Hey...don't feel bad about calling your Dad who you hadn't seen before and getting the opportunity to spend the time you had with him before he passed.  I know your sister would have liked to been with him when it happened.  Not to sound selfish, but she should be happy you got that chance before it was too late.   You sound good.   Keep pushing forward and all that hard work will be rewarded to you.

Is this the right way??

The sneezing and "allergy like symptoms' are definitely withdrawal-I am on day four of cold turkey and experiencing them and many other joys.  I don't know about Meletonin being addictive-but as it is a safe herbal remedy and something your body makes naturally I don't see the harm unless you are taking other meds that it could be contraindicated in (ask pharmacist)  As for the sleep-I've been taking sleeping pills and have only slept 4 out of 72 hours-it's one of the worst parts.  You're doing great-just keep at it(:  I'm sure someone who knows more than me will come along.
