Back pain & Methadone & Other medication recommendations

Alright, so I don't know how many of you have been following my story. But I have been in chronic pain for the past few years. And have been struggling for the past year with no insurance. Fighting with doctors dealing with stolen meds, bad massage therapist, bad acupuncture, and trying to deal with my life. Okay another the catch up my post for my question is related to this. Methadone Withdrawl

I just came off of 8 years of 80 mgs ( some days more ) and 120 mg of roxicodones ( blues ) LET ME TELL YOU THIS...Slow taper is the only way... The methadone has a half life to it... That is why, when u were switched to other pain meds... Thy wont hold you.. They subside quite fast and are out of your system .. With methadone you have that build up that lasts because of the half life..... I took me from mid October to July 24th to totally come off the methadone , I went down slowly 2.5. Or 5 mg every 2 weeks to a month and never went down until I felt I stabilized..GO SLOW NO MATTER WHAT DO S SAY.. They haven't used the methadone and only know from academic studies.... Going down fast is hell!!!!

Persistant back problem

I'm not a doc by any stretch of the imagination, but I have (unfortunately) gone through a large aray within these past three years.  Without an MRI or CT, the only diagnosis a doctor can do is guess and wish in the wind.  If things were getting better but a slip made it worse, it could be something as simple..... but not always less painful, as a bulging disc. If it's only a bulge, things can get better, but it can take a long period of time and being extra careful.  If your sister can, request and hound, and outright demand for more indepth testing. If it is something worse than a bulge, the longer the damage is allowed to continue unchecked and untreated, the worse things will get.  Good luck with everything and I hope things get better. Mikkel

Hi Lisa! Congratulations on the remission! I'm unfamiliar with cancer and the pain it can cause but wanted to suggest the that maybe a pain management facility would be worth looking into? Some doctors just aren't all that good at dealing with and understanding patients with continous pain :(. I wish you the best *hugs*

Neck Pain

My neck locks up on me. I have a pillow that one of my kids got me at Wal Mart. It cradles your neck. That helps. I find that heat helps relieve some of the tight feeling. Did they prescribe any kind of muscle relaxer? When mine gets real bad sometimes I take one of those. I used to wrap a bath towel around my neck to help support it but I have since gotten a soft collar. IF I think of anything else I will write later. Hope some of that helps. the pillow really does make a difference when I sleep. You can try rolling a small towel to cradle your neck and give it some supprt. Chadry

fentanyl to methadone

Yes, I have suffered from back pain forever.  I have degenerative disc disease and I find the more I stay in bed the worse it gets. You need to invest in a really good mattress.  It really helps.  Also physical therapy has helped my back tremendously.  I haven't been able to afford it lately but the exercises they gave me to do at home really help.
