Thoughts on how to deal with chronic constipation and mild cerebral palsy

my daughter is also 7 and in year 2 in mainstream school.  she is a spastic quad quite severe.  we also have endured 7 years of chronic constipation.  i have taken her off most of the stuff that was prescribed for her and have stuck with micro-lax enemas only given 1 per week and diluted prune juice. at school she is being time trained on the toilet and is getting quite good so now when they put her on nearly every time she goes.  she is in nappies but that doesnt bother me. it is a constant battle to get her to drink enough fluid but we have got to 2 cups of coridal per day.  try getting him to drink more water or mix with weak cordial, could try benefibre but he has to drink sufficient fluid ,enemas, and PRUNE JUICE (its the best) she was on parachoc but system got used to it so we went to another liquid laxative but she got used to that as well so we stoped it .  prune juice diluted is best.  if he is in pants at school you could try pull ups for school. hope this helps nicky1973

Chiari and Seizures

Hi and welcome to the forum. Below I have copied and pasted info I found on the web. It is very important to get a chiari specilaist to see ur daughter. And it may prove beneficial to remove the braces to do the correct studies on the MRI. ****************************************************************************************************** [ In children with cerebellar fits and Chiari I malformation the presentation is an extreme manifestation of brain-stem dysfunction. The most feared consequences of cerebellar fits in this population are respiratory arrest and sudden death. This outcome may be avoided by early diagnosis. Thus, it is important to remember that cerebellar fits in patients with Chiari I malformation can mimic other paroxysmal events such as epilepsy and cardiogenic syncope. The diagnosis of tonsillar herniation can be confirmed using MR imaging. The response of these patients to decompressive surgery is gratifying.] ****************************************************************************************************** I hope you find this info helpful and please post updates on ur DD's progress. been feeling odd and strange, once or still suffer from epilepsy

This may be anxiety from enduring the epilepsy or fearing it may return.  But know that you do outgrow it and that's what's happened with you. If you haven't spoken to your parents about this, now's the time.  They may want you to see your doctor, and then address what is causing the anxiety. Talking to your parents is most important, they love you and want to know if you're not feeling 100%.  They can get you any help you may need so you can get rid of these feelings. Everything will be okay, but talk to your parents about how you are feeling.  Take care!

Autism, 7yr old grandson, just diagnosed," high performing" autism ?

I'm not familiar with seizure disorders. As far as the autism, it can get better with therapy. Usually speech, occupational and physical therapies are used with success, Autism can be hard to diagnose because there is no absolute test for it. It is a diagnosis based on observations and educated opinions. Autistic people can have a very high quality of life and a normal life expectancy. I don't feel like I was very helpful, but you might get more info from a website like Autism Speaks. Good Luck.
