Spinal/back muscle injury???

Hi I enjoy to skateboard quite a lot and have been doing so for the past 8 years. Today I was doing a simple trick on a box and I lost my balance and my lower back/spine slammed onto the corner of the box. Aside from an external cut, I felt discomfort in my hips/legs while walking home from the skate park, and it also seems as though the whole left side of my body feels sort of stiff. If I had severed some nerves, wouldn't being paralyzed from the waist down be instant?? I don't wanna wake up tomorrow and not be able to walk again. Help please

Suggested Questions And Answer :

hi

A muscle injury can take quite a long time to heal completely and this may indeed be the cause of the lumpy area you feel. You may also have a cyst in your breast which is a rather common problem and is a benign condition. If you continue to be concerned about this I would suggest that you see your own Dr. for a clinical breast exam and any other type of testing that might be appropriate .... possibly Ultrasound. If this is a cyst it would be normal for it to cause discomfort near the time for your period. These cysts are often due to the changing hormone levels in the body.   Kindest regards ...

DID YOUR CORD COMPRESSION CAUSE CNS DAMAGE?

Sue, I have had a neck injury since November 2009. I have had a plethora of symptoms and not one person has been able to confirm if all are related to my injury. My MRI states (The striking finding in this patient is a large central C6-C7 disc protrusion resulting in acquired spinal stenosis moderately severe impingement upon the cord etc...) I was advised to have surgery immediately, however I wanted to do some research as this is the only neck I will ever have. I too have had Severe Muscle Fatigue, Pain, Numbness, Weakness, Temperature Intolerance, Skin Changes (all of a sudden extremely dry?), Vision changes, Trouble Concentrating, Entire left side weakness ( feel like a stroke victim sometimes) and Severe Digestion problems. I'm sure I've left out a few, I actually had to sleep sitting up for the first 3 months as it felt like my collarbone was broken and the heartburn was intolerable. I am getting surgery in 2 weeks and after being told by several neurosurgeons that I'll need between a 2 and 3 level fusion or a complete disc replacement. I have located a doctor in southern CA that will be able to fix my problem microscopically, although I still require a one level fusion. I'll try to post here after my surgery and let you know how it all turns out, in the mean time you're not crazy (wish someone had told me that) your symptoms are real. Good luck and hang in there. extreme stiffness in back ribs but injury is in lower back

Hi...many times muscles other than those directly affected can get sore and stiff bcuz of the way we compensate for the pain.... The other muscles may twist and turn to give support where the weakened muscles need it. Try using ur heat pack up where u r stiff..and not just on the injury area. I pray u feel better soon "selma"

Neck pain

It is difficult to speculate.....but if u really believe this is more than a pulled muscle, ur dr can order xrays or MRI's to look at what might be going on. If you develope other symptoms insist on the MRI. Were u ever in an accident?.....maybe u had an injury and the way u were brushing agrivated it??..... If ur dr does not listen and u really believe there is something more than a pulled muscle...find a new dr. Good luck Godspeed "selma"

Chronic Back Spasms

Does it feel like there is a knot there? have you tried a tens unit?  fluid build up is what I think but I will ask my husband he's a personal trainer, and a massageist. you'll have to excuse the spelling I'm tired. I know when mine does that he has to sperate my blades. but he also goes through and finds these knot things and presses on them to reless and those hurt more then anything in the world expecially when they are sitting on a nerve. but they are easy to find and easy to release you have some one rub your back and when they find them you hold your breath and they use two sometimes three fingers and press for 15 seconds and they keep doing that until it goes away. you will feel it when happens.
