Extreme back pain

I was just diagnosed with a protruding disc. My dr. told me I could return to physical therapy (even though my physical therapist is the one who recommended an MRI because she didn't know what else to do for me). I am in extreme pain every day and am on pain killers which don't seem to work. I am in jeopardy of losing my job due to calling out alot. I have been dealing with this for almost 4 months. Can someone please tell where I should turn? Who do I talk to? I can't live with this pain anymore!

I hope and pray that you receive the answers and the solution to your pain quickly. Take care.

Pain on the right side of my back along the shoulder blade.

have you recently done anything to strain that area?  have you been sick?  a while ago i had bronchitis for 4 months, and the severe and constant coughing gave me a "rib strain" in the same area you describe, and it sounds very similar.  it got so bad i had to go to the ER 3 times because I couldn't breathe.  I couldn't lay on my back after a was the worst pain i've ever been in in my life.  but mine was REALLY bad cuz i had it for like 2 or 3 of the months i was sick, so i was aggrevating it all the time by coughing more.  look up "rib strain" you won't find much on it (i remember when i was looking it up), but it might help you figure out if it's that or not

hip and leg pain

hi i empathize with you!! the pain could be stemming frm your spine...a nerve impingement can cause pain frm hips down. or could likely be bursitis...thats a fluid filled sac that sits over a tendon....very common on a hip., and becomes inflamed. that is apparently my source of pain...i've had 2 sets of cortisone injections now, which gives partial relief but only temporary. i too spend alot of time on a heating pad...laying on my sides...where i've always have slept is impossible now. have you tried anti- inflammatorys?
