Everyone in pain

I have chronic pain from back, neck and arthritis issues.  A member Omhome started a group for dealing with pain which is mind control, relaxation and meditation and more!  It has been hard to start, but is giving me a ray of hope--please check it out on Chronic Pain Couch and Pain Management Board, or just send a note to omhome or me. It's non-drug and free!!!

chest pain...a simple question

Hmmm, mine feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest.  I just can't seem to get my lungs to expand.  But, it is not specific to one part of my chest.   Personally, I hate the stomach-aches.  I'd take chest pains over that any day...  But that's just me...

Daughter recently diagnosed with Chiari 1

Hi Denise and welcome  to the Chiari forum.   I went to The Chiari Institute in NY and was well pleased with my Drs and my care...surgery was done for me in May of '09....this weekend is the Zipperversary for me..... I always had a a croopy cough , and I do believe it is related as I no longer have it....I also have PND which I found is also related as many of us can have Mast Cell Disease.... Hypermobility and EDS are cross overs and need to be looked at closer....I know the Drs at TCI do look at related conditions and rule them out as well as take them into consideration if surgery is considered I did not get colds or flu's....but being sick or feeling sick was frequent. The laughing could have triggered your daughters symptoms to flare...most activities can trigger them....by avoiding those we are aware that cause the flares, can help keep some symptoms at bay.

Advice for neck pain

Hi Angie, May I ask what meds is she still on? I have been using a heating pad ...Dr I said the muscles in the shoulders and neck will be sore for a while after surgery....mine r still sore, but I can deal with it. In the meds I was given when I came home......Dilaudid I stopped as soon as I could and only if  needed basis. The dr also told me that the other med I was rx'd was Valium...he said this was to help relax all the tight muscles and the feeling that I can only describe as a ping pong ball bouncing back and forth inside my head.... it is almost a week since I took the valium......and even then it was one week prior to that, that  I had one......but will if I find myself in the position where OTC meds r not helping. The heating pad does help me quite a bit. "selma"

Baker's cyst and extreme pain in knees

Hello and hope you are doing well. If the Baker's cyst is restricting movement it may need to be surgically corrected. For the arthritis conservative measures are weight loss, rest, ice, canes, bracing, physical therapy. etc. Also, nutrition supply should be considered, with chondroprotective agents (glucosamine & chondroitin phosphate, MSM, Omega-3). Glucosamine and chondroitin phosphate are unlikely to cause any drug to drug interactions with your other medications. But to date, there has been no evidence of structural improvement with these conservative modalities. So, if your symptoms are severe you may need surgical intervention. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

What is the "Average" Recovery time after Surgery?

Hi.....we do have a thread here "how many Zipperheads"....many members have discuss their recovery on that thread. I posted my info with my PFD in my journal in my profile page....I am only 2 months post op and I know I am not ready for a job......I am not driving yet. Everyone is diff.....and it all depends on how the surgery goes. I have no idea what kind of job u have, but if it is stressful and u r on ur feet I doubt u would be able to go back full time after 3 months.......if it was a less stressful position sitting down..maybe part time.....as I said, we r all diff......only u will know. Right after surgery I had a false sense of feeling great....it was the meds....and we do have to get off them.....then reality sets in....I am better and so glad I had the surgery, but I know I am still healing and must be patient...... Still looking for my new normal "selma"
