Energy Bars Information
April 10, 2008 on 4:38 pm | In Health |An energy bar is a food that contains carbohydrates, protein and other supplements to help replenish nutrients used during vigorous exercise and sporting events. Most bars are around 70% carbohydrates, 20% protein, and 10% or less of fat by calories. Generally, there are two types of these bars out there and they are those that contain a balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat, and those that contain mostly protein and fat, with very little carbohydrate. The bars that are balanced with protein, fat and carbs are more of an energy type bar and are popular with active people. A regular protein supplement can help athletes to maximise the body’s performance and help to improve muscle structure. Protein bars plays a leading role in your body’s growth and maintenance. Because your body does not store excess protein, daily intake is necessary. Unfortunately, many protein sourcesĀ such as red meat, cheese, eggs and whole milkĀ also have high levels of fat and cholesterol.
Some snack bars are now marketed as protein supplements, especially with all of the attention gained from the high-protein, low carbohydrate diets. Met-RX Protein Plus and Ultimate Lo Carb bars are two of the many available. However, protein is not the preferred source of energy for muscles carbohydrate is. Your body does need protein for muscle development but it is training the muscle and refueling the body with a variety of nutrients that encourages strength.
